Intel Buys 1,700 Patents For $375M
Santa Clara-based chipmaker Intel has picked up a bundle of patents in a big, $375M deal, according to the firm today. Intel said that it has signed an agreement to buy roughly 1,700 patents from InterDigital, for $375M in cash. Intel said the patents cover 3G, LTE and 802.11 technologies. InterDigital develops WCDMA (Wideband CDMA), HSDPA (High Speed Download Packet Access) and HSUPA (High Speed Upload Packet Access), 3G, and LTE (Long Term Evolution) and related technology. Intel said the patents will support its strategic investments in the mobile segment.
