Google's Zagat Drops Paywall, Relaunches Apps and Website

Google is ramping up its competition against such sites as Yelp today, relaunching its Zagat restaurants review site with a new set of mobile apps, and by dropping Zagat's prior paywalls. According to Google, in a blog announcement, its new website, and mobile apps for Android and iPhone now allow users to get to restaurants reviews from Zagat for free, covering nine major markets. Google bought Zagat in September of 2011.
