Unity Technologies Scores $181M For Games Engine
San Francisco-based Unity Technologies, which develops a very widely used game engine used for creating videogames, said today that it has raised $181M in a Series C funding. The funding was led by DFJ Growth, and also included China Investment Corporation, FreeS Fund, Thrive Capital and Max Levchin, plus Sequoia Capital and WestSummit Capital. The company's game engine dominates the industry, and is used for 2D, 3D, augmented reality, virtual reality, and other games. Barry Schuler of DFJ joins the company's board with the funding. The company is reportedly now valued at north of $1.5 billion after the funding.
