Instacart's Future Up In Air As Amazon Swallows Whole Foods
What happens to San Francisco-based on-demand, grocery delivery service Instacart, now that Amazon.com is acquiring Whole Foods. Amazon said on Friday that it will pay $13.7 billion for Whole Foods, or $42.00 per share in cash, giving it a huge foodprint in the retail grocery store business. Instacart is backed by Whole Foods, and has a major deal to provide delivery from Whole Foods locations. Amazon competes directly with Instacart with its AmazonFresh grocery delivery service.
