Karius Collects $50M For Disease Detection

Redwood City-based Karius, a developer of DNA-based infectious disease testing technology, announced on Monday that it has raised $50M in a Series A funding round. The funding was led by Data Collective and Lightspeed Venture Partners, and also included Tencent, Khosla Ventures, Innovation Endeavors, and Spectrum 28. Karius, led by CEo Mickey Kertesz, uses a standard blood draw and identifies DNA fragments left by bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other eukaryotic pathogens in a patient’s bloodstream.
