Google Gives $5M To Boost Media Innovation
Mountain View-based Google has provided $5M to nonprofits helping to bolster journalism and media innovation. $2M of that is going to the Knight Foundation and Google, to support the foundation's media innovation work. The Knight Foundation runs contests, helps shape national media policy, and is looking for ways to transform journalism in the new media age; the group says it has invested more than $100M in the last five years on its various projects. Google said it is investing the remaining $3 million in journalism projects in other countries through a similar partnership with other organizations.
