Google Chops Print Ads

Google said Tuesday that it is killing its venture into print advertising, a part of the firm's cost cutting efforts. According to Google, it has decided to stop offering its print ads, a part of its AdWords program which allowed online advertisers to purchase print ads in newspapers, much like buying space on Google itself, on February 28th. Google said the firm is shutting down the program, because the product "has not create the impact" that the firm or its partners wanted. Google had hoped to help develop a product which would drive ad revenue for newspapers, and boost the firm's own slate of advertising products to sell to advertisers. The effort was launched in November of 2006 with 50 newspapers, and eventually expanded to 800 U.S. newspapers.
