Google Puts $3.9M In 23andMe

Google disclosed in a filing with the SEC today that it has invested in 23andMe, a Bay Area biotech firm developing new ways to help consumers to understand their genome. Google said that it invested $3.9M in the company, as a result of a Series A investment that also included New Enterprise Associates, Mohr Davidow Ventures, and Genentech. 23andMe co-founder Anne Wojcicki is married to Google's Sergey Brin. The filing also disclosed that Sergey Brin provided $2.6M in interim debt financing to 23andMe prior to the financing. 23andMe also counts Esther Dyson as a member of its board of directors.
