23andMe Launches Services

23andMe, the genomics firm which is partially backed by Google, said this morning that it has officially launched and will begin offering DNA analysis and testing, along with web-based interactive tools. The firm said that its service will enable customers to gain deeper insights into their ancestry and other inherited traits. The service combines a saliva-based DNA test, with web services which allow users to compare DNA with family and friends, identify traits identified in their genome, and explore their ancestry. 23andMe was co-founded by Anne Wojcicki, who is married to Google's Sergey Brin. 23andMe has received venture funding from Genentech, Google, and New Enterprise Associates.
