Google Launches New Nonprofit Initiatives
Google's nonprofit arm, Google.org, announced this morning on a conference call that it has launched five new strategic initiatives. The group said it has added three new areas--predicting and preventing, improving and empowering public services, and fueling growth of small and medium businesses--in addition to previously announced initiatives to developer to make renewable energy cheaper than coal, and acceleration of the adoption of plug in hybrid vehicles. Among the initiatives, the nonprofit said it would help identify hot spots and create an early warning system for infection diseases and drought and environmental disaster; fund efforts to improve education, health, water, and sanitation in Sub-Saharan Africa and India; and create jobs in small and medium sized businesses in India and East Africa.
