Unity Semiconductor Gets $22M

Sunnyvale-based Unity Semiconductor, a developer of semiconductor technology aimed at the solid state data storage market, announced Tuesday that it has raised $22M in a Series C funding round. The firm said the financing came from August Capital, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Morgenthaler Ventures, and an unnamed "major" hard disk drive manufacturer. The firm said the funding brings the total raised by the company to $75M. Unity was founded in 2002 by former Micron and AMD executive Darrell Rinserson; the firm said it is designing semiconductor with the "smallest die-size" and "lowest manufacturing cost per bit" for the data storage market.
