Cavium Networks Acquires MontaVista Software

Mountain View-based Cavium Networks said late Tuesday that it has acquired MontaVista Software, a developer of embedded operating systems, in a deal worth $50M. Cavium said it would pay $16M in cash and approximately $34M in its common stock for MontaVista. MontaVista is a developer of an embedded, real-time operating system based on the Linux OS. Cavium Networks said MontaVista Software will run as a separate operating unit of the firm, under the MontaVista brand name, and will also maintain its own dedicated engineering, sales, and product management staff.
