Amazon: Kindle Books Outselling Hardcover
Online retailer Amazon.com reported Monday afternoon that it is now selling more Kindle books than hardcover titles, as sales of its Kindle reader accelerate. According to Amazon, it's now selling more Kindle books--33 months after the release of the Kindle--than hardcover books, which it has been selling for 15 years. Amazon attributed the recent increases in a price drop to its Kindle reader on June 21st, from $259 to $189. Amazon had dropped prices in response to the availability of a cheaper Nook e-reader from competitor Barnes and Noble.
