Roost Raises $5.5M For Connected Batteries

Sunnyvale-based Roost, which makes "smart" batteries which help connect things like smoke alarms to your smartphone, raised $5.5M in a series A funding. The company said the funding came from RPM Ventures, and also included USAA, DCM Ventures, Center Electric, and StartGarden. The startup said RPM's Adam Boyden joins the company's board. Roost is led by Roel Peeters. The company's smart battery looks like a standard, 9V battery, but also can send out wireless alerts to a user's smartphone when there is an alarm or low battery condition.
