Ford Doubles Down On Silicon Valley, Autonomous Vehicle Efforts
Ford said on Tuesday that it is doubling down on efforts to develop fully autonomous vehicles for the ride sharing market, and has doubled its Silicon Valley team and expanded its campus. According to Ford, it plans to have a fully autonomous vehicle by 2021, aimed at use in the ride sharing market. As part of the expansion, Ford also said it has invested in or is collaborating with four startups: Veloyne (LiDAR sensors); SAIPS (computer vision and machine learning); Nirenberg Neuroscience (machine vision); and Civil Maps (3D mapping) as part of that autonomous vehicle push. Financial details of those investments were not announced.
