Craig Newmark Gives $1M To ProPublica To Combat Fake News

The Craig Newmark Foundation, the charitable foundation rounded by craiglist founder Craig Newmark, said this morning that it is giving a $1M grant to ProPublica, a nonprofit news organization which produces investigative reports and news for the public interest. The foundation said the grant was specifically made to combat the spread of "fake news", news which is based not on actual facts, but false claims and unsubstantiated opinions. The foundation said the funds go towards adding staff and resources. Newmark said, in a release, "when it comes to news I can trust, I'm putting my money where my mouth is."
