Cisco Buys Jabber

San Jose-based Cisco said this morning that it is acquiring Jabber, Inc. a provider of instant messaging and presence software. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. According to Cisco, Jabber will work with Cisco to enhance its Cisco Collaboration portfolio and its existing presence and messaging functions. Jabber's instant messaging software is based on the XMPP instant messagin protocol. The firm is based in Denver, Colorado.
