Sigma Designs Buys Gennum Image Processing Business

Milpitas-based Sigma Designs said Thursday that it has acquired the VXP Image Processing business from Canadian firm Gennum Corporation. Sigma will pay $18M in cash plus assume specific liabilities in the deal. Sigma said that Gennum's VXP group has 46 people, including 42 engineers, and will remain in the greater Toronto area. VXP develops single image processors for professional audio/visual processing, focused on the HDTV market. The deal is expected to close in February.
