Cisco Buys ScanSafe For $183M
San Jose-based Cisco said today that it intends to acquire San Francisco-based ScanSafe, a developer of web security products. Cisco said it will pay approximately $183M in cash and retention-based incentives for ScanSafe. ScanSafe's software-as-a-service will become part of Cisco's AnyConnect VPN Client, Cisco said, becoming part of Cisco's Security Technology Business Unit (STBU). ScanSafe was backed by Benchmark Capital and Scale Venture Partners, and had raised a Series B worth $15M back in 2007.
