Tessera's FotoNation Buys Smart Sensors Limited For Iris Recognition
San Jose-based Tessera Technologies said today that its subsidiary, FotoNation Limited, has acquired Smart Sensors Limited, a UK-based company developing iris recognition biometric technology. Financial details of the acquisition deal were not announced. Tessera develops components used in smartphones and digital cameras. Tessera said the buy will help Smart Sensors Limited accelerate adoption of its technology in high volume applications. Smart Sensors' tools are used to develop biometric systems for iris recognition. The companies are aiming at incorporating the technology into mobile computing, notebooks, PCs, tablets and other communications platforms.
